The Humane League of Lancaster County's Foster Care Program began when a small group of dedicated employees and volunteers committed themselves to saving the lives of special-needs animals at the Humane League. Since that time, the Foster Care Program has grown steadily and now has about 100 foster families that serve hundreds of homeless dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, reptiles and small mammals annually.

Under the guidance of Foster Care Program Coordinator, Lori Kelley, the foster care program continues to grow each year and continues to save the lives of more and more animals.   We would be thrilled to have you join us as a Foster Parent!  By becoming a foster parent, you will partner with us as we continue our fight to make euthanasia an absolute last resort. Foster Parents offer short-term and long-term care to animals who are unable to be immediately placed for adoption. By providing care to injured, sick, or neonatal animals, Foster Parents make it possible for these animals to be adopted. Foster parents can specify the length of time they are available, and if they would like to care for cats, dogs, and other animals like birds, goats, pigs, or even horses! We provide all of the food, supplies, veterinary care, and you provide the love.

Still want to help but don't have the time to volunteer?  Why not consider making a financial donation towards the costs of running this critically important program?  Or, supply the shelter with an item from our foster care wish list.

Meet Lori Kelley, 2006 Pennsylvania Federated Humane Society's Employee of the Year

The Humane League's own Foster Care Coordinator, Lori Kelley, was named the Pennsylvania

Federated Humane Society's Employee of the Year at the organization's annual meeting September

21st, 2006.  Lori has been the foster care coordinator here at the shelter for five years. She has taken a small program that handled foster care for a handful of sick and behaviorally challenged animals and turned it into a

well-run program that helps more than 500 animals a year get the extra care they need until they are

able to go up for adoption.

Congratulations, Lori!
