Our goal is to match companion animals with families who are willing and able to provide them with a lifetime commitment of care and love. We hope that our adoption process involves a back and forth dialogue between our staff and yourself as a potential adopter, so that we can work together in your search for finding your new best friend!
Many people think of the HLLC as a place to adopt a cat or dog. But when you visit our shelter, you are likely to find a variety of small animals, such as rats, ferrets, hamsters and rabbits, who are also looking for new homes. We occasionally have birds, reptiles, and farm animals available for adoption. As with any pet adoption, we urge you to do your homework or speak with our staff to make sure that you know how to properly care for the animal whom you are interested in adopting.

Hi this is Daisy Mae. My husband and I adopted her a year ago on 5/13/11. Her name is Little Washu with you. Here is a pic of her. She's now about 90 lbs and loves to play with her sister Casey (k9) and brother Lil man (siamese cat).
Dear Lancaster Humane League Staff–
From July 2011 to February 2012 Gracie (a.k.a. Girlie) did indeed, grace my home and our hearts.
She loved car rides, camping, walks and being held and confided in.
I loved her complete trust, unconditional love and THAT BARK!!!!!
She made me smile when I needed to. She was a true friend.
I would like to thank the Humane League of Lancaster Co. for their wonderful facility and untiring staff.
A special thanks to the doctor who removed Gracie's warts for us.
I adopted Princess from you about a month ago. She is doing so well here and I'm just so thrilled to have her in my life. This doggy is the sunshine in my day! She's a happy little farm dog who accompanies me to work. I attached a picture of her during one of our lunch breaks. For her, I thank you.
Hello. My husband and I just wanted to you to know how well Max is doing since we adopted him. Max is a Shih-tzu/Jack Russel Terrier Mix and was 5 mths. old and weighed 11 lbs. when we adopted him back in Sept. 2011. We just totally fell in love with him the night we came in to look at your dogs. We had to put our Beagle down last June 2011 because he had liver disease, we got him when he was 7 mths. old and he was 11 yrs old when we had him put down. It was the hardest thing EVER!! We didn't really know what kind of dog we wanted because we knew how hard it was going to be to replace Buster, and of course if you're an animal "lover" you know that you can never replace another animal.
So we were just kind of looking and when I saw "little" Max's face I knew he was who I wanted. He just celebrated his 1ST birthday on April 11th and he now weighs 16 lbs., he loves to eat. We had a birthday party and ALL for him, he's VERY SPOILED!! Max is a very loving dog and he LOVES to play. He goes to work w/ my husband and I everyday. We actually have him trained now to walk with us without a leash and he does very, very well. He loves to play with other dogs and is very friendly. We had no problem "house training" him and he is crate trained. At night when we say "it's time for bed" he goes straight to his bed and lays down. We take him to PetSmart to get groomed and he stays in the PetSmart Hotel there as well when we go on vacation. All the employees there just "love" him to pieces. He "loves" to be outside and it doesn't matter if it's sunny or raining, he'll go out. Seeing the snow this past winter was a "BLAST" since he had never seen it before. We took lots of pics & videos. Max's favorite thing to do is to play ball (as you can see in the pic). He loves to play fetch and will go for hours at a time (he NEVER gets tired), must be the Jack Russel in him. We just can't enough of him because he is so adorable, and he always wants your attention 24/7.
We never adopted from the Humane League before, but my husband and I just have to say "If you're looking for a puppy/dog it's DEFINITELY the place to go. Everyone there is so nice & friendly and they are willing to answer any of your questions that you may have." We know we made the right choice by going there because without Max in our lives we would be totally lost. Thank you All So Much for all that you did for my husband and I and for filling the empty space in our HEARTS!
