Founded in 2004, the Bright Side Oppor­tu­nities Center is an inde­pendent, non-profit social service facility that provides support to the youths and families of Lancaster County. Friday, May 4, a group of employees from  XL Insurance donated their time and supplies to the HLLC, as part of  their  annual GDOG (Global Day of Giving).  XL Insurance helped out  150+ community projects all over the world as far as Australia , with 2100+ employees participating. We are so glad that the Humane League was one of the recipients of the GDOG. The work done by the XL staff made a huge difference to the Humane League– its animals and staff.

The HLLC would like to  extend a huge THANK YOU to XL Insurance for choosing the Humane League as a recipient for their annual GDOG (Global Day of Giving). Some of the projects at the shelter included: painting the small mammal room, weeding in front of the vet building, clearing out a dog run, and donating much needed items such as kitten food, toys, “pooper scoopers,” and laundry detergent. At a cost of only 10 dollars( cash or check) per dog, all pets will be given DHPP and Rabies vacci­na­tions. Both the Humane League of Lancaster County and the Bright Side Oppor­tu­nities Center respect­fully request that, for the safety of all pets and patrons, all dogs be kept on leashes while they wait to be vacci­nated. Dog licenses will also be available for purchase as well.

The Humane League is so excited to once again partner with Weis Markets for their annual "Paws for Pets' Campaign!  Weis Markets has partnered with the Humane League to collect donations through the month of May — this annual campaign brings in boxes upon boxes of much needed — and appreciated! — suppllies, food, treats, and toys to the Humane League!  Thanks to these generous donations and this parntership, we are able to make sure the animals and staff have what they need to care for the animals on a daily basis, and for that, we are so thankful!

Special event volunteers are invaluable here at the Humane League, as they play a direct role in spreading awareness and education about the Humane League into the community, as well as planning and pulling off the many events the Humane League participates in year-round!  To build a no-kill community where everyone is working together to save lives, these community events provide the life-saving education that is vital to making this possible.  Special events volunteers are involved in every step of the process – on committees for Humane League annual Wags &Whiskers and Tailwaggers Trot, all across the community at outreach events ranging from pet parades, community fests, and so much more.  In addition, volunteers make it possible for the Humane League to highlight adoptable animals in the community, giving the man extra adoption boost, leading to so many of our furry friends finding their new family that day!

We are proud to honor Jenn Troupe-Rummel with the Heart & Soul Volunteer Award for Special Events!  Jenn has been a dedicated volunteer with the Humane League since 2008, where her dedication and passion for doing all she can for animals in need shines through.  She is always ready with a smile for staff and fellow volunteers, and brings a wide range of professional skills that help bring Humane League special events to life! Jenn is a committee member for the annual Wags & Whiskers Fundraiser, as well as the Tailwaggers Trot, where she dedicates countless hours to planning the many details involved, collecting donations, putting together mailings, and countless other tasks that are crucial to a successful event.  In addition, Jenn can be found doing community outreach events across the community, always willing to go the extra mile for an animal in need.  With a heart and talent as big as Jenn’s, it’s no surprise that events have continued to get bigger and better by the year!  Thank You Jenn for making so many happy tales possible, we can’t thank you enough!
