Keep Your Pets Safe in the Heat

Here are some great tips from our own Dr. Bryan to keep your pet happy and healthy in the heat:
  • Any animal can succumb to the effects of excessive heat very quickly.
  • It is extremely important that your pet be kept out of direct sunlight, preferably in air conditioning, with plenty of fresh cool water to drink.
  • Long haired, arctic (huskies), and short nosed dogs (like pugs) are especially prone to overheating.
  • It is important to monitor your pet closely for any signs of over heating that include excessive panting, vomiting/diarrhea, disorientation, fainting, and difficulty walking/getting up.  If you notice any of those signs, let your veterinarian know immediately.
  •  As always, NEVER leave a pet in a car in any kind of heat conditions!!  Even in the shade, temperatures can reach lethal levels of over 110 degrees in less than an hour.

Remember, if it is too hot for you to be outside, it is too hot for your pet to be outside!
