Surrendering Your Pet

Surrendering a family pet is a difficult decision. If you have decided to bring your animal into the Humane League of Lancaster County, rest assured that we will do our best to find your pet a new home. Unfortunately, there are times when we must make the difficult decision to euthanize an animal in our care and thus we cannot guarantee adoption. We are, however, committed to saving lives and do use humane euthanasia as a last resort. Nevertheless, we ask that you consider the decision to surrender your pet carefully and explore all other options for your pet prior to bringing him or her to the shelter.

We understand that you may have many questions about the procedure for surrendering an animal, which is why we have created a Frequently Asked Questions document, which you can access below. You can also contact us at (717) 393-6551 with specific questions or concerns.

Make an Appointment

If you are in the difficult position of having to surrender one of your personal pets to the Humane League, we would request that you make an appointment to sign your pet over to us. While appointments are not required, having the opportunity to speak one on one with a Customer Service staff member regarding your animal's behavior and medical history is extremely beneficial for your pet. The more information we have about your pet, the better we can serve his needs during his stay here at the shelter! Contact us at (717) 393-6551 for an appointment.
