23rd Annual Tailwagger’s Trot

We Hope You Did Not Miss the Chance to Trot!

This year’s Tailwagger’s Trot was a fan­tas­tic day of food, fun, enter­tain­ment, and of course furry friends! The day began at Clip­per Sta­dium where trot­ters gath­ered to begin the 1.5 mile trot to Buchanan Park. The trot was lead by the Queen of the Trot, Vio­let, and her mom.

As trot­ters entered Buchanan Park, they quickly real­ized that the fun was already in full-swing! There were approx­i­mately 70 ven­dors, dis­bursed through­out the park. There were ven­dors sell­ing a wide vari­ety of pet products- any­thing from hand-made puppy sweaters, to col­lars, to pet pho­tog­ra­phy! In addi­tion, mouth water­ing smells per­me­ated the air.  Food ven­dors offered fun­nel cake, ham­burg­ers, french fries, hot dogs, and even wraps!

The enter­tain­ment con­sisted of bands, a dance troupe, and the­atri­cal pro­duc­tions cour­tesy of Prima The­atre! Our canine guests min­gled in the dog park, sunned them­selves at the dog­gie beach , tried their paws at an agility course, or just had a good time walk­ing around and mak­ing new friends!

We had a few new attrac­tions this year at the Trot. There was the  sports tent for the avid sports fan. The kids cor­ner where chil­dren could par­tic­i­pate in activ­i­ties and win prizes! In addi­tion, there was also an HLLC retail table, piled high with dog toys, cat toys, mag­nets, bumpers stick­ers and much more!

A spe­cial thank you to every­one who trot­ted, vol­un­teered, or spon­sored this event. All pro­ceeds from the Tailwagger’s Trot go to the Ani­mal Res­cue Fund.  Each year the Humane League receives hun­dreds of home­less ani­mals who are in des­per­ate need of med­ical atten­tion and care. The Ani­mal Res­cue Fund allows the Humane League to meet the needs of these ani­mals. Thank you for your support!

Meet The Queen of the Trot: Violet

My mom is a vol­un­teer pho­tog­ra­pher for the HLLC and was asked  to take pho­tos of a Ger­man Shep­herd at the Vet Clinic who had been recu­per­at­ing and liv­ing there for the last 3 months after being seized in a cru­elty inves­ti­ga­tion. A horse stepped on my foot and my old owner had ignored it. Half of it had been com­pletely crushed and with­out treat­ment things got so ugly, the neigh­bors turned him in to author­i­ties. I was seized and taken to the HLLC where the vet did surgery to remove a toe. I went into fos­ter care and ended up hav­ing more surg­eries at the Humane League to remove infected bone shards and yet another toe. It took me quite some time to heal but I’m doing well now minus two toes. My mom Melody tells me that they fell in imme­di­ate love with me and adopted me. I have a great life now and am so happy with my “For­ever Fam­ily”.

I could go on and on, but I want to remind you that many of my friends are still wait­ing for a lov­ing home, and they need your help. With your sup­port we can accom­plish great things, which is why I am urg­ing you to walk in the 23^rd annual Tailwagger’s Trot.

What is the Tailwagger’s Trot?

The Tailwagger’s Trot is our biggest fundrais­ing event of the year! Peo­ple from all over get pledges from their fam­ily, friends, neigh­bors, etc. and come together to trot for our community’s home­less ani­mals. Most peo­ple trot with their dogs, but we have also had peo­ple trot with their cats in strollers, their pet rat in a cozy car­rier, or their fer­ret rid­ing on their shoul­der. Last year, we even had some­one trot with their pet goat! The Trot starts at Clip­per Sta­dium and ends at Buchanan Park, where there will be family-friendly fun, enter­tain­ment, food ven­dors, and arts & crafts!
