Animals who are too young or too sick to be placed up for adoption find refuge with our foster care families. Foster homes also provide a safe haven for animals who have been neglected or abused and are being held as evidence in ongoing court cases. Animals who are part of our foster care program benefit from the individualized attention that they receive in a home environment. The Humane League currently has over 100 active foster families who provide care for nearly 800 animals each year. Each animal who is part of our unique foster care program is one more homeless pet who has a second chance at finding a loving and permanent home.

New! Join Our Foster to Home Program
Designed to help those animals who do not do well in a traditional shelter setting, the Foster to Home Program will remove dogs and cats from the often stressful shelter environment and place them into foster homes where their individual needs can be met. In addition, the Foster to Home Program will enlist foster parents to act as adoption agents so that the animal never has to return to the shelter and can transition from the foster home directly into life with his or her newly adopted family. For more information, read the detailed program description (PDF).
